Brilliant Sunshine and an excellent track layout greeted the Bigfoot team at Herts Showground for rounds 3 and 4 of the ProMT European Championships.
During an excellent qualifying run during which Nigel Morris finally mastered this seasons much tighter hair pin turns by quite surprisingly using a ‘full throttle power sliding technique’, No.17 posted an excellent qualifying time. Unfortunately for the team just 20 yards past the finish line Bigfoot once again lost all drive. This time Kenny and the Boys from STA decided that a site visit was required to see exactly what the problem was with 17’s gearbox. Whilst 17 was out for the day excellent work carried out by Kenny, Nigel and Paul meant that 17 had its problems diagnosed and repairs completed in time for Freestyle late Saturday afternoon.
Unfortunately No.17 decided that now was the perfect time to develop an ignition problem and flatly refused to start. After much head scratching a new set of spark plugs were fitted and 17 burst back into life.
Sunday morning saw Bigfoot Chief Mechanic Paul Parsons checking and double-checking everything on the truck; surely today they would score some points!
A good qualifying time (3rd fastest) saw Nigel and Bigfoot 17 in a good position for the early rounds of racing. After three good races it seemed at last the team’s gearbox worries were behind them. By late afternoon Bigfoot had worked it’s way through to the finals and was facing last years ‘Rookie of the Year’ driver Karl Swallow. But Bigfoot was hungry for points and driver Nigel Morris showed no mercy when exiting the final turn to come from one truck length from behind Karl to take the win by just 1/100th second!!
During the post race interview Nigel said “I always knew the truck could do it – when Bigfoot is running right she is always going to be in the hunt for points!”
